Legislative Bills Watch and Action List

February 16, 2010 – SB 2580 was introduced by Sen Holmes at the end of January, it is refered to as the tethering bill. It was assigned to the Assignment Committee. It would make it illegal to tie dogs out on tethers less than 15 feet long, could not be tied between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am, and must be visible to the responsible party at all times, to just name a few of the bad points of this bill, so this would make it impossible to tie a dog out at a hunt or at a tree with a dog lead or keep them tied out at home overnight. I have contacted my senator and expressed the opposition to this bill by the association, I was told that she thought it would be assigned to Ag committee, if it went anywhere, which she is a member of and if it did that I would be invited to testify before the committee to express our opposition. Please contact your Senators and tell them you are opposed to SB2580 and tell them to vote against this bill as written. This bill has HSUS and ASPCA stink all over it!
SB 53 The association along with other groups and organizations worked very hard against this bill last year and are still keeping an eye on this bill. When you contact your senator about SB2580 tell them you also oppose this bill.
HB 5771 This bill was introduced Feb 9th and is a lot like HB 198 dubbed the ‘puppy mill bill’, we are looking over this bill and will see what has changed in this compared to HB198, but if it is backed by the same people as 198 then it can’t be good for us.

Just want to provide this as a area that you can come to find out news about the association and its activities.
FEB 16, 2009 - Well I have some catching up to do, I apolagize for not getting the updates sooner. I will start at the 2009 Gov Cup. The Gov Cup show winner was No Fear Tuff and Ugly B&T owned and handled by Steve Miller and the hunt winner was Night Talkin Pearl BLU owned by Jeremy and Ryan Whiteaker. At the membership meeting the major thing that happened was that it was voted to make the Gov Cup a UKC sanctioned hunt in 2010, so there will be no qualifiers this year.
A reminder that the scholarship applications are to be submitted to Jon Lock by the deadline of April 1st, so if you know of someone who could use one have them get the application filled out and submitted. We are doing something different for the scholarship raffle this year, we are raffling off 3 prepaid Visa cards in the amounts of $150, $100 and $50 we are only selling 250 tickets at $5 each so for $5 you have a one in 84 chance of winning at least $50 so if you are interested in one get a hold of me.
The Scholarship Hunt was held Feb 6th at Hillsboro and for the weather we had a decent turn out, again thanks to everyone who supported the event. The winner of the show was Emily’s Critz Heid owned by Emily Beasley and the winner of the hunt was Creekwaters Strangle hold owned by Rich Vogel. The next hunt will be the UKC State Hunt at Shelbyville on April 10th.
This year there is a change to our youth hunt lineup. We have dropped the NKC Youth Hunt and added the AKC Youth hunt. The Illinois UKC Youth Championship will again be an all day event this year so plan on attending as it will be a blast as all the youth hunts are.

Before sending the casts to the woods we drew for the octagon barrel Henry rifle, it was won by Jim Temmen, who took the cash alterative. We now have this rifle as the second gun to go along with the Golden Boy to be drawn at the Governors Cup. Just a reminder that we are doing something different this year for this drawing, we are only selling 400 tickets at $5 each so don’t procrastinate and miss out on getting a ticket bought as they will go fast.
